Why free, and why one price
The free version is not a demo. A web host and a bucket is most people’s whole setup, and that fits inside the free limit for good. If DockBird becomes part of your work and the sidebar fills up, Pro is a single purchase, priced like the utilities of an earlier Mac era: buy it, own it, and get the updates that follow. A file transfer client talks to servers you already pay for; charging monthly for that never sat right with us.
Pricing questions
Is there a subscription?
No. You pay once through the Mac App Store and the licence is tied to your Apple ID, so it carries over to every Mac you sign in on.
What does the free version include?
Every protocol and preset, unlimited transfers, Quick Look, Keychain, tabs: the whole app, with no time limit. The one limit is 2 servers saved in the sidebar. You can still connect to any number of servers without saving them.
What does Pro add?
Unlimited saved servers, and “Edit with…” for files on a server: DockBird downloads the file, opens it in your editor, and uploads it again each time you save. Plus every Pro feature added during this major version. It is a single purchase through the Mac App Store, tied to your Apple ID.
What happens to my servers if I never buy Pro?
Nothing. Saved servers are never deleted. If you ever end up above the free limit, you keep every one of them; you just cannot add more until you unlock Pro or remove one.
Can I get a refund?
Purchases go through Apple, and Apple handles refunds. Report a problem from your purchase history at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Do updates cost extra?
Updates within the current major version are free. If a paid major version ever comes, existing customers will be told well ahead of time.
Is there a team or volume option?
Not yet. Apple Business Manager can buy App Store apps in volume for organisations; contact us if you need something beyond that.
